Among Taichung's (臺中) sights, Gaomei Wetlands (高美濕地), Miyahara (宮原眼科) and Rainbow Village (彩虹眷村) are far apart, so a tour is the easy way to combine them in one day. 01 · What Are the Three Stops?
Gaomei Wetlands is an ecological reserve of about 701.3 hectares south of the 大甲溪 estuary, visited by more than 120 bird species. Miyahara is a former eye clinic built in 1927 that the 日出 team turned into a dessert shop, and Rainbow Village is a small village made famous by Grandpa 黃永阜's paintings. Some murals were painted over and damaged in July 2022; today his originals sit alongside new works painted by residents and students (Taichung Cultural Affairs Bureau).
02 · What Not to Miss
Sunset at Gaomei Wetlands The sun setting behind the wind turbines by the sea is the most famous view. The boardwalk over the mudflats opens according to the tides.
Miyahara's bookshelf displays The bookshelf-style displays reaching the ceiling are the highlight, and ice cream and gift sweets like pineapple cake are popular.
Rainbow Village Only part of the original murals remain; the rest are community-made works. It's still colorful and good for photos, and 30 minutes to an hour is enough.
